What does this test do?
The Women’s WellCheck is designed to to give a broad overview of general health status by screening for abnormalities in the some of the body’s most important metabolic systems, and also includes screening tests for diabetes and ovarian cancer. This combination panel includes:
Complete Blood Count – Measures the amount of white and red blood cells, and is useful in detecting anemia or leukemia.
Complete Metabolic Panel – Measures blood sugar, calcium, protein, and electrolytes; also checks liver and kidney function.
Lipid Panel – Measures the levels of total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, and triglycerides (fatty acids). This panel also provides an estimate of the LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone – A widely used test to screen for thyroid gland disorders, and to monitor their treatment.
Hemoglobin A1c – Screens for diabetes by estimating the average blood sugar level over the past three months.
CA-125 Ovarian Cancer Screen – 80% of ovarian tumors secrete CA-125, so an elevated level may be a sign of ovarian cancer. This test is also used to check for tumor recurrence in those who have undergone treatment for ovarian cancer.
